BERLIN – Werner Herzog’s fact-based war drama “Rescue Dawn,” starring Christian Bale, will have its German premiere at the upcoming Munich Film Festival.
Pic, which chronicles the fate of a U.S. pilot shot over Laos during a bombing mission in 1965, dramatizes the story of the German-born pilot Dieter Dengler, which Herzog already told in his 1997 documentary “Little Dieter Needs to Fly.”
Herzog, who is being honored at this year’s fest along with Richard Linklater and Kevin Kline, will be on hand to present the pic. Bale, currently in bat-mode while shooting Christopher Nolan’s “The Dark Knight,” will not be attending.
“Rescue Dawn” is due to hit local theaters in October via Central Film.
The Munich fest runs June 22-30.
