Headlines & Rumors

It appears Christian Bale and Mark Wahlberg really want to work together.

Earlier this month, word had it that the two stars were in talks to become “Prisoners” for Bryan Singer. Now, according to Variety, the duo will appear in the reconstituted drama “The Fighter.”

Originally set to be directed by “The Wrestler’s” Darren Aronofsky, the drama will now be under the direction of moody cineaste David O. Russell. The picture will now be fully financed by the seemingly endless pockets of Relativity Media, the company who is behind the Weinstein Company’s “Nine,” recently purchased the Rogue Pictures label from Universal Pictures and invested a substantial sum into Lionsgate. However, because of the history of the project, Paramount Pictures is still set to distribute domestically.Based on a true story, “Fighter” tells the true story of Boston fighter “Irish” Mickey Ward who reached the world lightweight championship with the assistance of his half-brother Dicky Eklund. Eklund was a potential star himself until destroying his career by turning to drugs and crime. He turned his life around by helping Ward through a surprising title run. The project has been a passion project of Wahlberg’s for years (he’s been training off and on since at least the beginning of 2008) who will play Ward. Eklund has had a number of suitors before Bale including Matt Damon and Brad Pitt.

Wahlberg previously worked with Russell on “Three Kings” and “I Heart Huckabees” making him one of the few actors in Hollywood to work with the mercurial filmmaker more than once. Bale, who everyone knows isn’t shy about voicing his own opinions, will be seen next in May’s “Terminator Salvation” and Michael Mann’s “Public Enemies.”

It’s still unclear whether either actor will star in the much-buzzed about “Prisoners.”

Assuming all the details can be worked out, “The Fighter” should finally step into the ring this July.

It seems to me that Christian and Mark become good friends! Also, I am glad that Christian becomes very famous now. I believe he will join many movies in the future because he really enjoys acting.

! it’s a real big good idea! yesterday i was on a french forum about “prisoner” and i said CB could take the place of Brad Pitt in this movie! only i ‘m disappointed the director has been changed! Aronosfsky is a real great director of actors and he had defended Bale about the rant on T4 set!

wow sounds really good :D I like these kind of movies.

With the films in progress: “Terminator: Salvation” and “Public Enemies” and with future projects: “Empire”, “Prisoners,” “The Fighter .”… for the next award, THE OSCAR GOES TO … CHRISTIAN BALE !

@Caro

I agree with you. I’m also disappointed that Aronofsky isn’t going to direct anymore. I’m afraid of this other director, I don’t know his work but by what I’ve read they’re not great. That’s too bad because the story appears to be really interesting, but a director can ruim it… But who knows… We’ve seem great directors make awful movies and unkown directors make excellent movies. Lets hope he is able to do a great job.

The Riddler should be the Proffessor Mouriarty to Batmans Sherlock Holmes… I’d rather see him cold, sexy and serious than gay and goofy.. Since they are reinventing the character… I think the only totally cool way to go is… have Christian Bale play the Riddler… Give Batman a head injury where he’s missing for 48 hours…and comes to. things start to explode…Batman starts finding the riddles…starts tracking down the bad guy…even catches a copy cat nut…thinks it’s over then a vidieo to the news reviels Riddler taking off his mask… It’s Bruce wayne punishing Gotham for killing his parents…Bat man tracks it all back to the new bat computer which has gone Rogue AI and can’t be shut down… Bruce Wayne is arrested. Has to meet all the criminal loonies Batmans put in jail… hears rumors of a weapons broker “the mysterious penguin” escapes. Shuts the computer down… has accidentally given a new criminal an identity…Bruce lets the wannabe take the fall.
