The audio clip of Bale screaming abuse at the film’s director of photography became a YouTube hit when it was leaked online in February. It featured 39 F-words and Bale threatening to quit the film after the hapless Shane Hurlbut accidentally wandered into shot. Bale’s rant inspired a number of online spoofs and “mash-ups” with the actor’s expletive-laden tirade put to to music. Breaking his silence about the incident in an interview with Total Film, Bale, 35, said: “Hey, I did what I did. I’m not hiding from that. I went overboard. But there is an essential trust and it’s not a tacit one, it’s a verbal one, a spoken one, which is [that] every sound guy says, ‘We are not only not recording, we’re not even listening.’ “So, well, there goes that. I do stress, though, it’s not in any way a trust that’s there to cover up bad behaviour. It’s not about that. It’s an essential trust that’s needed for creativity.”Asked if he was worried that the story would affect audiences’ enjoyment of Termination Salvation, the Batman star replied: “Yeah. It’s not in anyone’s interest to know that much. I understand people are interested, I get that they want to hear about it, but to me I look at it as old-school movie magic and with magic you do not reveal your secrets. “You really make people work to find those secrets and generally you just reveal it to people who are going to join your ****ing magic circle and then you know about it. And you know, for me, I’ve never been comfortable with the revealing of those mysteries which I think are wonderful mysteries.” Bale added: “I’m not making any excuses, I’m not whining, I’m not going, ‘Oh well, if it hadn’t have been for that…’ Hey, listen, I did it, it’s in the public space. Hey, I take the consequences for it. But it’s that. It’s a creative trust.” Terminator Salvation is the fourth instalment in the franchise, although Bale would prefer people to call it the Terminator “mythology” because “franchise just sounds so money-minded. Well, I for one, am glad that he said that. It should’ve been a trust bond, and the sound guy should’nt have never taped. My question is why did the sound guy tape it? Even if it was by accident, why would he keep it? Money? |

That’s the reason why I love this man, he never hides himself, he takes the consequences for what he does. That’s an unsual thing lately, people usually try to blame somebody else or find excuses for their actions. Mr. Bale don’t! That’s a Man ! I’m wondering how does it feel when you know you have to work for other two movies with that same crew that betrayed you…uhm…. it must be hard. |

Well said Elena! I second that. What still makes me angry is the way they still talk about the DP as a poor victim. Now we know Hurlbut is a douchebag, that he did what he did on purpose and he also acted as an a***ole during the rant. But the stupid media still says things like that stupid pearl on this article: “…hapless Shane Hurlbut accidentally wandered into shot.” The media really love to put others down and paint then as monsters don’t they? Wonders that they can’t see that they are the disgusting party here for blowing it up of proportion and treating CB like they still do. So, people, lets stop talking about this in the first place and secondly lets make something very clear here: the DP was NOT hapless and he did NOT wander accidentally into the shot!! Period!!! |

Wasn’t the tape property of the studio? Who gave permission for somebody to “take it” and put it out there for everyone to hear? Also, Mr Bale’s voice was used in cartoons and videos. Does he not have any right to be compensated for using his voice? I think he should of looked into sueing. |

He can’t sue. Hollywood does not look kindly on actors who sue. However, he has let his feelings known. I have a gut feeling that the sound supervisor(Nigel Albermaniche ) and the DP (Shane Hurlbut) will not be invited back to the next Terminator movie. If I was Bale, I wouldn’t want those idiots back anyway. Trust me, if the producers have to choose between Bale and those guys, they will pick Bale. Same goes for Hollywood. Bale’s career will not be affected. However, if I was working on a production, there is no way I would want to hire the DP or anyone in the sound department from Terminator Salvation. I would also question hiring the assistant director. It’s actually the assistant director’s main job to MAKE SURE that the set is absolutely “locked down” during shooting. That means, no movement at all. Hurlbut will get work, but he will never be hired to work on a A-list production again. I mean, his next movie is the masterpiece in the making, Light Up America, a movie that reunites Cheech and Chong. Yeah, his career is going places. Wally Pfister he ain’t. |

@becky I too have heard the tape is the studio’s property and the rant was recorded for insurance purose’s. Just incase CB decided to keep his promise of walking off the set. I think someone let it leak for attention. |

I think Mr. Bale has a problem, and needs anger management. I also think he has a problem with everyone knowing what an arrogant jerk he can be and how he treats people he works with. I can see being a fan of some of his work, but to suggest that his temper tantrums are acceptable because he is a gifted actor- is just rediculous and helps prove the point that many overpaid celebrities think they are special and the rules don’t apply to them. Apologize for your inappropriate behavior, and move on. Everyone else would like to. |

Hey Kym…..he HAS apologized…OVER AND OVER AGAIN! It’s everyone else that can’t seem to move on! By the way…have ya ever been a little ticked off…and maybe went off on someone? If so, was it recorded…and broadcast all over the PLANET? Actors, in general, have NO PRIVACY and stricter laws need to be put into place to protect them & their privacy. This incident should have been kept between only those directly involved with it. I read that he apologized that very day to the guy he cursed out. The clown who leaked the tape should be terminated and never allowed to work in Hollywood again! THAT guy is the REAL jerk in all of this. What kind of a work ethic is THAT…and I wonder if HE ever apologized to Christian and the rest of the cast & crew of T4 for being so UNPROFESSIONAL?! Christian’s apology came along time ago! Let’s move on planet Earth!!!! |
