Earlier today I participated in an international press conference with a lean and muscular Christian Bale. He was here in Los Angeles promoting his new movie âPublic Enemiesâ. I went as a reporter for our partners at Omelete and while Iâll have a full transcript of what Christian said, since he gave us some updates on his possibly upcoming projects, I wanted to post what he said immediately.
Regarding âBatman 3?, Christian said, âI really cannot tell you if there will ever be another âBatmanâ movie right now. Chris has obviously done an incredible job with it. Heâs devoted to the movie that heâs on right now. Iâm none the wiser about weâll ever be revisiting Gotham or not.â
On another âTerminatorâ movie: âno conversation has been had about that at all.â
While Christian didnât have much to say on his big franchise movies, he did have a lot to talk about regarding his next film âFighterâ. Read what he had to say after the jump:When I spoke to him at the âTerminator Salvationâ junket, he said he was training for âFighterâ, but he wasnât sure if the film would happen. Today his physique said different and so did he: âwe might start within a couple of weeks.â
He went on to explain how heâs training for the role and the film is âa true story of two incredibly gifted boxers who were half-brothers. The one, Dicky Eklund, who fought Sugar Ray Leonard at a very young age, when he was twenty one, was an incredible natural talent. He lived a very hard life. Then he came to train his brother, Irish Mickey Ward, to the world title.â
The plan is for Christian to play Eklund and Mark Wahlberg to play Ward. With filming set to commence shortly, Iâd imagine weâre going to hear a lot more about the film and its casting very soon. Hereâs everything he said on âFighterâ, âBatman 3? and âTerminator 5?.
Question: Youâre looking thin, like youâre in training. Is this all for âFighterâ?
Bale: Yes. This is for âFighterâ.
Is âFighterâ actually going? Whatâs the status of it?
Bale: I hope it is.
Iâve heard that you might be doing it, but when will that be if it is going?
Bale: We might start within a couple of weeks.
Has there been any talk between you guys – the âBatmanâ question.
Bale: I really cannot tell you if there will ever be another âBatmanâ movie right now. Chris has obviously done an incredible job with it. Heâs devoted to the movie that heâs on right now. Iâm none the wiser about weâll ever be revisiting Gotham or not.
A lot of people, myself included, donât know that much about âFighterâ. Can you talk a little bit about what that film is about?
Bale: Itâs a true story of two incredibly gifted boxers who were half brothers. The one, Dicky Ecklund, who fought Sugar Ray Leonard at a very young age, when he was twenty one, was an incredible natural talent. He lived a very hard life. Then he came to train his brother, Irish Mickey Ward, to the world title.
Youâre in really great shape right now and are somewhat known for your training process. Can you talk about how prepare physically for a role like that?
Bale: Box. Thereâs nothing like boxing for getting you in shape.
Is it multi-hours a day?
Bale: Yes. Itâs a wonderful thing when your trainer is actually the person youâre playing.
Had you ever boxed before this?
Bale: Iâd never boxed before, no.
So, no update on âTerminatorâ then, on doing another one?
Bale: Really, no. No conversation has been had about that at all.
