Eddie Murphy has denied that he will be playing the Riddler in the next Batman film.
His agent said to Access Hollywood: “The news is not true.”
Johnny Depp was another name bandied about to play the comic book supervillain in the caped crusader’s next big screen adventure. Other names rumoured to be joining Christian Bale (Bruce Wayne/Batman) and Michael Caine (butler Alfred) for the highly anticipated next instalment include Philip Seymour Hoffman as the Penguin, Angelina Jolie or Rachel Weisz as Catwoman, and Shia LeBeouf as Batman’s sidekick Robin.
Alan Horn, president of Warner Bros, admitted that their main focus is on the plot at the moment, and not the casting.
“The story is everything,” he told Collider.com“We’ve been talking to (director) Chris Nolan and what we have to do is get him in the right place and have him tell us what he thinks the notion might be for a great story, but Chris did a great job and we’d love to have him come back and do another one.”
He added: “We have a wonderful relationship with him, and we are going to be respectful of his timing and we want to get it right. Also, I think that the fans expect that – they want us to make a terrific movie – we have to give them another great movie.”
